Things have quieted down here. Finally. That leaves little to report. We went sailing today. The winds were “light”. At one point we were going backwards. But I caught a fish. (A Jack. I threw him back.) and the Captain caught a lobster trap. (That threw him back $7 for the lure.) So I tossed this together while waiting for the next calamity to strike…………
4:30 am - No matter what, I’m always awake by then. I found if I flip around and point the wall fan straight down about a ¼” from my head I can get back to sleep.
5:15 am - Wake back up with a headache from listening to a fan motor running a ¼” from my head. After a couple of aspirins, I put the coffee on (adding an extra spoonful just in case).
5:30 am - Stumble outside with coffee in hand and climb up to the bridge. I usually grab my fishing pole and try a few casts. This is merely for the exercise. It’s way too early to be dealing with fish.
5:45 am - Just hooked the dinghy. Not sure how since I was up on the bow and it’s way back in the stern. Luckily it caught the engine and not the actual dinghy which is an inflatable.
6:00 am - Pause and check the sunrise to ensure it doesn’t require anything.
6:15 am - There’s generally something aquatic going on. A sea turtle or manatee drifting by pausing to graze on the sea grass, a sand hill crane using our dive platform as a fishing roost/toilet or a stingray splashing after a fish, the later doing its best not to become breakfast.
7:00 am - Out of coffee and it’s too early for a beer. The Captain’s up wondering what all that fishing line is doing wrapped around the outboard motor. I shrug and saunter down below to see if the frig has coughed up anything interesting.
7:15 am - Finish my peanut butter and crackers. One of these days we gotta buy some eggs.
7:30 am + - I’m afraid it gets even more boring so I’ll spare you the details. At some point I paddle into the marina where a colorful cast of characters awaits. I’ll save that for next time as that‘s an event unto itself.
Note: I didn't have to wait long for something eventful. I wrote this yesterday. Last night around 3:00 a.m. a waterspout tore by us trailing 90 mph winds that ripped off our bimini top (the one we valiantly saved a few months back when freak wind attacked us off Islamorada at around the same time), while our neighbor’s dinghy flipped and sank. It totally disrupted the middle of a perfect night’s sleep.
