The Importance Of Failure

My nephew emailed me last week with the news that he’d flunked the Florida Bar Exam, for the third time. (He obviously mimics my side of the family.) I replied that I’ve always considered personal failures cleverly disguised opportunities.
Case in point:
In 2007, I was pulling in six figures selling real estate in Atlanta.
In 2008, my income dropped 95%. The day now consisted of sitting on my back deck shooting squirrels off my bird feeder with a slingshot. (Note: No squirrels were actually injured in this exercise.) Something needed to change and fast, before I switched it out for a Smith & Wesson.

A year later I was living aboard a boat in the Florida Keys.
Days were spent doing whatever the hell I wanted. Nights were reserved for partying. That was followed by five months in the Bahamas, three months in the DR, a year in St. Thomas and another one in New Mexico. Not bad for a guy who couldn’t make a go of it.
I believe the Gods have something in store for my nephew other than Law. They steered me in this direction for which I’m eternally grateful.
